Practicing & Teaching Traditional Knowledge for Tangible  Results

My Mission: Welcome

MY MISSION

Practicing & Teaching Traditional Knowledge for Tangible  Results

RETURN TO TRADITIONAL PRACTICE

In China before the medicine officially modernized, it took years of effort and practice to learn this medicine. Students learned worked as apprentices and watched and helped their teachers while they treated their patients. They were the neighborhood doctors treated various types of physical injuries, and managed internal disease with every tool they had at their disposal. These pre-modern/traditionally trained practitioners of Chinese medicine survived because their practice was geared to get results. They still exist today but there are fewer in numbers compared to the modern trained practitioners of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM). I have been trained and educated as a modern-TCM  practitioner but have also learned to think and practice more like the  pre-modern/traditional practitioners.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

  • I completed my education at The American College of Acupuncture & Oriental Medicine in Houston, Texas and began my practice in October 2002.

  • In 2006 after practicing for four years and working part time as an assistant faculty member at my acupuncture college. I decided to move Asheville, North Carolina to work at a large practice and teach.

  • I was hired as a full-time faculty member, taught numerous courses and supervised students in the school clinic for 10 years.

  • But even several years of practice and teaching, I found myself being challenged to help patients with more complicated issues.

  • In 2012, I found some courses that I could study online from Andrew Nugent Head, a practitioner and international educator of Chinese medicine who created the Association for Traditional Studies.

  • In 2014, Andrew and his family moved to Asheville North Carolina to live. When I heard that Andrew and his wife JulieAnn were opening up a practice and teaching clinic, I signed up and took all of the in-person courses and began being mentored by Andrew and JulieAnn.

  • After completing all of the in-person courses Andrew asked me to work in his clinic and in May of 2016 and I began to see patients two days a week and followed him and his wife JulieAnn every week until I completed over 600 clinical hours.
